"I save a life" initiative

This is a road safety initiative which will start today under the patronage of Prime minister Sergey Stanishev. With this initiative Bulgaria joins the first United Nations Global Road Safety Week 23-29 April. The Minister of transport Petar Mutafchiev will present the European Chart for road safety, which unites the efforts of the whole society against road accidents in Europe. The document is set in the approved by the Council of the European Union Program for improvement of the road safety. The main aim of the program is to reduce significantly the number of road accidents victims by year 2010. The aim of the European Commission Chart is the civil society to contribute to improvement of the road safety in Europe. The minister of Interior Rumen Petkov will summarize the road safety problems in Bulgaria. A photo-exhibition “Road safety depends on us” will open doors today in Hotel Kempinski-Zografski. The exhibition includes dramatic documentary photos of severe road accidents with dead or seriously wounded people. The aim of the exhibition is to attract the attention of drivers and the community to the road safety problems. A billboard with built into it authentic car, which has suffered a severe road accident, will be put at one crossroad in Sofia. The billboard is a symbolic warning for reckless drivers and an appeal to all road participants to abide by the road safety rules. At the same crossroad, Bulgarian Youth Red Cross volunteers will distribute stickers with the Global Road Safety Week logo.http://international.ibox.bg/
